Our company was founded in 1992 and many consider us to be a pioneer in North America in the development of organics processing solutions using Anaerobic Digestion (AD). CCI was founded with a vision that our MSW management challenge is an opportunity to change our thinking and realize that the organic fraction of municipal solid waste (MSW) is a resource asset with a significant amount of value.
As a privately held company located in Newcastle, Ontario, Canada, we hold the exclusive Canadian and USA license rights to a European developed, commercially proven AD technology known as “The BTA® Process”. This North American patented solution was developed and commercialized in the early 1980’s and since then it has been successfully implemented across a range of countries. The system is designed specifically to process the organic fraction of MSW generated in our homes, businesses and industry. Today, more than 110 million Nm3 of biogas are annually produced at more than 45 BTA facilities, which corresponds to the energy equivalent of approximately 70 million Nm3 of natural gas. For our official overview, view our Corporate Brochure.
A proven track record combined with an unequaled knowledge of the critical success factors reinforce our ability to effectively deliver all required services to meet a project’s objectives.
Capitalizing on our partnering philosophy allows us to combine complementary skills and experience in all the facets of organics project development and mitigates the risk for all parties to the project.
Our corporate mission is to use a partnership strategy to design, build, operate, own, sell and finance, in any combination, processing solutions that recover the resources inherent in the organic fraction of MSW.
Our corporate vision is to sustainably use the organic fraction of our wastes to produce clean, renewable bioenergy and a variety of other beneficial use products.
Our corporate and project delivery activities are supported by a team of professionals with deep knowledge, broad skills and hundreds of combined years of practical experience and lessons. The team is lead by the following three key individuals.
Kevin founded CCI in 1992. With his 20+ years of experience in the renewable energy field he has gained a wealth of knowledge on how to successfully develop solutions to manage organic wastes using AD. Kevin leads the plant delivery teams and he has directed numerous feasibility studies in Canada, the USA and the Caribbean that were centred around waste diversion for renewable bioenergy production.
A member since 2002, he has a deep understanding of organics processing and biogas production as the Plant Manager at the Toronto Dufferin Facility and now the Disco Road Organics Processing Facility. He has the proven ability to direct operations toward the most reliable and cost effective approach, with intimate knowledge and experience with all elements of the BTA® Process from initial design and testing through to stable, reliable, and efficient operations.
Keith joined us in May 2013, overseeing all daily activities from facility and process design through to start up. With 35 years of experience in the rendering and biodiesel industries as a senior operations expert, his ability to have quickly learned the BTA® Process combines with his honed skills in operations, construction management, commissioning, training, and cost control.
The road to success is littered with the skeletons of failure. We are interested to provide you with confidence and comfort that our involvement is going to deliver success in obtaining your goals and objectives. Together, we and our project partners have accrued extensive global experience understanding and successfully converting waste.
Our experience is not only marked by the success of our City of Toronto solution, but also through our lessons learned in converting close to 10 million metric tonnes globally over the last 30 years. With more than 45 operating facilities worldwide, converting more than 1.2 million tonnes annually, we have demonstrated we can address the opportunities and challenges and translate them into success.
