SÉMECS was established to be responsible for treating organic materials recovered in the RCM’s of Marguerite-D’Youville, La Vallée-du-Richelieu and Rouville and will design, build, operate, and maintain a biomethanization facility located in Varennes, Quebec. The three RCM’s, representing 27 municipalities totalling more than 235,000 people, have joined together to achieve the mandated Quebec Provincial government’s waste management policy objectives. The RCM’s will implement new diversion programs to curbside collect household separated organic materials, which represents over 40% of the community organics recovery and diversion opportunity.
